Keep Austin's Electric Utility Accountable
At the request of large corporations, the Austin City Council is planning to create an independent board to run Austin Energy, the City’s municipal electric utility.
Why should you care? Because Austin Energy is a national leader in the use of clean energy and electric vehicles, creating hundreds of local jobs with these efforts. Because Austin has an aggressive program to help low-income customers who cannot pay their bills. Because our electric bills are lower than most private electric utilities in Texas. This has happened in large part because the utility is democratically accountable.
