Join us as Dr. Martin Ficken speaks about Common Intestinal Parasites and Respiratory Diseases of Chickens.
Dr. Ficken is a licensed veterinarian in three states (Texas, Iowa, and Nebraska) and is board-certified in both Veterinary Pathology (ACVP) and as a Poultry Veterinarian (ACPV). He has a background in academia (Associate Professor, College of Veterinary Medicine, North Carolina State University) with numerous publications of original research activity, case reports, and book chapters involving the commercial poultry industry in the state of North Carolina. He also has extensive experience in animal vaccine development and manufacturing with Pfizer Animal Health and with a small company, Benchmark Biolabs, both in Lincoln, Nebraska. This included protocol development, animal procurement, experiment execution, data collection, summary, analysis, and validation, report writing, and dossier submission. He has had oversight over both a Biosafety Level 2 and a Biosafety Level 3 research animal facility with administration of highly infectious disease agents. He has personally worked with highly pathogenic avian influenza virus (H5N1 of human origin). Finally, he has experience working in two veterinary diagnostic laboratories (Iowa and Texas), often the front line of detecting emerging animal health emergencies.
