Formerly known as Solid Waste Services, Austin Resource Recovery provides residential curbside collection of trash, recycling and yard trimmings in the City of Austin. Additional services include sweeping streets, collecting dead animals, operating a drop-off center for household hazardous waste and collecting bulk items and large brush.

Keeping chickens is a great way to keep your food waste out of the landfill. Chickens can recycle your food scraps. Chicken keeping and composting methods go hand-in-hand to keep food waste out of the landfill while creating healthy soil.

This program offers a way for residents to contribute to Austin’s zero waste goal by eliminating food waste at home. Through the program, Austinites* can get up to a $75 rebate on either a home composting system and accessories, or a chicken coop for their home.
