Take advantage of cool fall weather and beautiful countryside–Get Outdoors!
Camp Fire Central Texas offers Backpacking for youth and families. This is a very economical, volunteer-led backpacking program. Youth about 6th grade age and older may participate on their own or with a parent; younger youth are also eligible to participate with a parent to assist them. It is not a requirement to participate in all scheduled trips and activities–we understand that people can have complicated schedules. Planning skills are learned as youth select and prepare their own gear and food. Outdoor skills such as navigation/map and compass, outdoor cooking, safety, and Leave-No-Trace outdoor ethics will be taught and practiced during trips.
An Orientation is required before your first trip.
The next Orientation will be:
Backpacking Orientation Sunday, September 28, 3:00-5:00 p.m.
REI Austin Downtown Classroom, 601 North Lamar, Austin.
RSVP to Backpacking Coordinator Mina Loomis at backpacking@camp-fire.org, or at 512-797-3525.
Bring a parent. Bring a friend! Bring two friends!
The Orientation workshop covers information about Camp Fire, basic backpacking technique and gear, and explains what to expect and how to get ready for trips.
There is no charge for attending this Orientation.
