BUILDING HEALTHY SOIL

Healthy, resilient plants require healthy soils replete with nutrients as well as a diverse array of micro and macro organisms. This class teaches participants how to build rich, living soils that are ideal for growing vegetables and herbs.Topics include the mineral components of soil as well as the role that soil organisms play in building soil structure and enabling plants to access nutrients and ward off diseases and pests. Participants will learn how to amend their soil’s mineral makeup by adding compost. They will also learn how to build their soil biology using organic gardening techniques such as side dressing, cover cropping, biological tilling and the application of compost teas.
Course fee is $15.
