Join Shoal Creek Conservancy and Travis Audubon Society as we enjoy a Winter birding walk at Beverly Sheffield Northwest District Park. We will be looking for winter visitors such as White-throated, Song, and Lincoln’s Sparrows; Cedar Waxwings and American Goldfinches; Orange-crowned and Yellow-rumped Warblers; and possibly even some adorable Golden-crowned Kinglets! We also hope to enjoy our year-round residents such as Red-Shouldered and Cooper’s Hawks, Red-bellied and Downy Woodpeckers, and the usual Hill country songbirds such as Titmice, Carolina Chickadees, and Northern Cardinals.
Beginners, as well as experienced birders, are welcome. Not all portions of the planned route are easily accessible to those with mobility challenges, but the main portion of the park and playground area are. We can make adjustments in our route if necessary. Restrooms are available at the playground, but soap may not be stocked so consider bringing hand sanitizer. Bring water or snacks, if you desire. And, wear footwear and layers appropriate for the weather and dirt nature trails.
Meet at the playground on the side closest to the NW parking lot at 7:45 am. Registration is limited to 20 people (we will split into two groups of 10). In order to keep y’all safe and to reduce the spread of COVID, we are requiring participants to wear a mask at all times.
Please refrain from sharing equipment with people outside of your household. There will be a small supply of loaner binoculars for individuals that don’t have their own. Please DO NOT attend if you have a fever, cough, any other symptoms of illness, or if you have had a known exposure to Covid-19 within the preceding two weeks.
