Austin Zero Waste Alliance Monthly Meeting, Featuring Lucia Athens

November 25 @ 10:29 am

This month we are excited to be hosting the City of Austin’s Chief Sustainability Officer, Lucia Athens as our guest speaker. She is the first person to hold this vital position, and an internationally recognized innovator in green building. She took the newly-created position in 2010 after a number of years in Seattle, where she was central to that city’s progressive stance on environmental policy. We are excited to host Lucia, and look forward to what she has to say about how our city will get down to Zero Waste, and the challenges we face seeking to reach our sustainability goals over the coming years.

WHAT: Austin Zero Waste Alliance Monthly Meeting, Featuring City of Austin Chief Sustainability Officer Lucia Athens

WHEN: Wednesday, June 6, 7 PM

WHERE: St. Martin’s Lutheran Church, 606 W. 15th Street

WHY: Plan for the future of a Zero Waste Austin, learn about the opportunities and challenges we face and develop networks among local activists, entrepreneurs and officials working to use our resources in a wise and sustainable fashion.

We will also take time to discuss the latest victories on the Insinkerator proposal, the work we’ll be doing on the rule-making phase of the single-use bag ordinance as well as food salvage and other Zero Waste topics. If you have ideas for the agenda, please email me back as soon as possible so that we can have a constructive meeting. Some of us will likely grab food and drink afterwards and everyone will be invited!
