BIKE MONTH TO CULMINATE IN CITYWIDE CELEBRATION
Everyone’s invited to celebrate the bike with live music, food, bike demos, and the Austin Commuter Challenge Awards.
Austin Bike Month 2010 crescendos with a Closing Celebration on Sunday, June 6th from 2-8PM at the Zilker Rock Garden (located above the Hillside Theater). The event and the month dedicated to bike advocacy is a unique demonstration of solidarity in the bike community as shops, organizations, and clubs unite to promote one message: Ride Your Bike. It is the first time in history—surprisingly—that the entire Austin bike community has combined resources for a unified cause.
The public is invited to celebrate local vendors, bike shops, frame builders, non-profits, social clubs, and all other bike related businesses to commemorate the close of Bike Month with free beer, food, music, games and more. There will be mountain bike demonstrations, BMX and fixie tricks, roller races, commemorative t-shirts and fun for every kind of cyclist. In addition to the festivities, awards will be presented to the winners of the Commuter Challenge, a team competition to log the most miles by bike in the city.
The gathering provides an opportunity to network and learn more about other local cycling groups. Proceeds from t-shirt sales will go to the Yellow Bike Project, the League of Bicycling Voters, the Austin Cycling Association, Please Be Kind to Cyclists, and Bike Texas.
Bike parking and mechanical support will be available on site.
