Monday night (5/20), the Electric Utility Commission (EUC) unexpectedly passed a resolution that asks the city manager to get Austin off of coal by 2015 (plan to be developed by end of this year) through conversations with LCRA. Our job now is to make sure that when this resolution is put on the city council's table, it moves us toward a retirement of the Fayette coal plant, not selling of the plant.
To do so we have a number of important things coming up for June including city council lobbying visits in early June (exact dates/times TBD), attendance at the next EUC meeting on 6/17, and working with allies in the community such as Climate Buddies. Please remember that we have a monthly Austin Beyond Coal meeting for all volunteers (including new volunteers) next Tuesday (5/28) at 6pm where we will dig into each of these items a bit more. Please mark your calendars!
