Back by popular demand, Dripping Springs Farmers Market will present the 4th Annual Tomato Round-Up Saturday, June 20th from 10 am to 2 pm at Founders Memorial Park; 490 Founders Park Road in Dripping Springs.

Tomato Round-Up is a celebration of gardeners and their favorite fruit…the red, juicy, ripe Tomato! Don’t miss this annual fun community event that brings together local growers and tomato lovers to celebrate and showcase everything Tomato.

Registration for the tomato contests are from 9 am to 10 am. Gardeners are encouraged to enter their tomatoes in five categories: Heirloom, Cherry, Yellow, Red Slicer, and Roma. A panel of distinguished community members and tomato enthusiasts will judge the tastiest, prettiest, biggest and most unusual tomatoes.

Attendees can join in the tasting and judging fun too! For just $1 per category, participants can vote for their favorite tomato in the People’s Choice competition. There are many opportunities to win as first, second, and third place ribbons will be awarded in both Judge’s and People’s Choice divisions.

The first place tomatoes in each category will move up to compete for the distinguished “Harley Clark Award,” in honor and memory of former District Judge, beloved friend of Dripping Springs Farmers Market, and organic gardening guru Harley Clark, Jr.

It’s sure to be a family fun day with good food, live music, face painting, a park playscape for kiddos, and activities at the Dr. Pound Historical Farmstead and Museum next-door. There will also be opportunities to learn growing tips from contest winners and The Hays County Master Gardeners.

Food and beverage options will be plentiful. Bakery JoJu will hitch up their traveling hearth to make handcrafted, wood-fired pizzas. The Mercantile will serve up the world’s best BLTs with homemade bread, specialty in-house cured bacon, locally grown lettuce and homegrown tomatoes. A new addition will be the Home Grown Tomato Store, overflowing with gorgeous tomatoes, ready to take home.

Dripping Springs Farmers Market hosts the Tomato Round-Up with the help of the Hays County Master Gardeners, volunteers, and generous sponsors such as The Natural Gardener, Onion Creek Farm, Milwood Farm, and others. Radio host and veteran journalist Bill Paige from Sun Radio will be the Master of Ceremonies and organizer of the musical entertainment.

If you would like to get involved (as a judge, sponsor or volunteer) or pre-register (and receive free tasting tokens), please call 512-858-4725 or email farmersmarket@cityofdrippingsprings.com
