From the Shoal Creek Conservancy

You are invited to join Shoal Creek Conservancy for the 1st Shoal Creek Watershed Stakeholder Meeting on Tuesday, February 13 from noon to 1:30 pm at the Cirrus Logic Conference Center (700 West Avenue). Please look for the Conservancy signs, and metered parking is available on the street nearby. Let us know if you will attend with a quick email and we’ll save you a lunch!

Why? As you likely know, Shoal Creek is a 13-square mile watershed that spans from the Domain to downtown Austin. It is highly urbanized and suffers from many serious and interconnected water-related challenges – poor water quality, devastating flooding, erosion, loss of native habitat and reduced spring flow.

Our goal is to identify creative, cooperative solutions to address Shoal Creek’s challenges and create a resilient, healthy and safe creek through the development of Shoal Creek’s first watershed action plan.

Who? We are gathering stakeholders like you (businesses, nonprofit organizations, and residents of the watershed) to identify goals for the future of Shoal Creek and to develop a plan to make this future a reality. And we’d like you to join us! We’re partnering with experts at the Meadows Center for Water and the Environment at Texas State and with Doucet & Associates. We are also working hand-in-hand with the City of Austin Watershed Protection Department.

What? We will kickoff the effort on February 13 with the first of a series of stakeholder meetings. This first meeting includes a presentation about Shoal Creek Watershed challenges as well as the basics of watershed planning, the timeline and the stakeholder process. We will end the meeting with small group discussions about what you think the biggest water-related challenges on Shoal Creek are and how you’d like to get involved.

Lunch will be provided! Please RSVP to Randy Peterman at volunteer@shoalcreekconservancy.org by February 1 to let use know you’ll attend. And, if you are unable to make this first meeting, please let us know if you’re interested in being involved as we move forward.
