Divers & Shoreline Volunteers Needed!
Sunday, September 13, 2009 will mark the 15th anniversary of the Lake Travis Underwater & Shoreline Cleanup, a community-driven event that helps remove tons of trash and debris from littering Lake Travis. More than one thousand volunteers participated in 2008, gathering approximately four tons of trash from the shores and waters of Lake Travis, including a substantial amount of recyclable material. The Colorado River Foundation, Keep Austin Beautiful, Travis County, and the LCRA partner to organize this event. The goal of the event is to keep our waters and shoreline clean so that divers, boaters, and other visitors can enjoy a clean and healthy Lake Travis and Colorado River for generations to come.
Divers begin Cleanup at 8:00AM and Shoreline Volunteers begin at 9:00AM. Volunteering will last until 11:30AM to be followed by a post-party at Carlos N’ Charlie’s to thank all of our volunteers from noon until 1:30. T-shirts will be given to all volunteers and door prizes will be awarded to a lucky few of them.
The Lake Travis Underwater & Shoreline Cleanup’s fifteen years of success is a testament to the great community support behind the event. Since the program began, more than 14,000 community volunteers have come together to remove over 70 tons of trash from Lake Travis. We look forward to seeing you on September 13th to continue this tradition of environmental stewardship!
