EcoCalendar March 12th – March 19th, 2015: Art Earth Fest, Films for the Forest, Poached

[Festival] The Llano Art Earth Fest runs this weekend from Friday, March 13th at 11am to Sunday, March 15th at 5pm. It's a free,family-friendly event held on the banks of the Llano River, celebrating the river and the artistic community that has sprung up around it. Activities include live music, belly dancing, camping, kayaking, rock climbing, and so much more. More info>>
 

[Garden Training] Saturday, March 14th from 9am to 1pm the Sustainable Food Center is hosting a community garden leadership training class for anyone who wants to start their own neighborhood garden. The class is free and will teach participants how to secure land, fundraise, and reach out to the rest of the community to get them more involved. More info>>

 

There is a permablitz event this weekend at The Funny Farm.

 

[Permablitz] A permablitz is a community organized and supported event to spread permaculture design, practice, and implementation, and there is one happening this weekend! From Saturday, March 14th at 9am to Sunday, March 15th at 5pm, the Austin and Central Texas Backyard Poultry Meetup and the Austin Permaculture Guild will be hosting a permablitz at The Funny Farm at 8500 Bear Creek Drive. Volunteers are needed to help install water catchment systems, plant trees, and build a better habitat for chickens to live on the farm. More info>>
 


The Rainforest Partnership's Films for the Forest event is this Sunday,[SXSW Party] Sunday, March 15th from 3:30pm to 5:30pm the Rainforest Partnership is hosting its sixth annual Films for the Forest SXSW event at the Marchesa Hall and Theatre. This international short film contest is designed to apply the power of storytelling to the rainforest. The SXSW event will include screenings of the winning films, followed by a rainforest-inspired reception with free food and drink.More info>>

 


Celebrate the world premiere of Poached with local Austin nonprofits on Monday night.[SXSW Party] Monday, March 16th from 4pm to 6pm the makers of an official SXSW selection movie, Poached, are hosting a reception with several local Austin partners. EarthShare Texas, the Austin Parks Foundation, and Travis Audubon will all be there to celebrate the world premiere of this new documentary, about the consequences and popularity of stealing wild bird eggs for private collections. Megan Inglis of the Native Plant Society will be giving a talk on Tuesday.

 

[Landscape Talk] Tuesday, March 17th at 6:30pm the Native Plant Society of Texas is meeting at the United Methodist Church on Exposition Boulevard for a discussion on small scale land restoration. Native Plant Society Member Megan Inglis will be presenting about alternatives to traditional landscaping and recovering the natural beauty of the land.
