[Wildfire Symposium]Saturday, May 2nd from 9am to 3pm the Austin Fire Department is hosting a Community Wildfire Preparedness Symposiumat the JJ Pickle Research Campus on Burnet Road.Free emergency preparedness kits will be handed out and guest speakers will share information about evacuation readiness, home protection, and wildfire insurance. The entire event is free to attend and open to concerned residents, community leaders, and firefighters alike. More info>>
[Conservation Workshop] Saturday, May 2nd from 9am to noon the Austin Parks Foundation and the City of Austin's Watershed Protection Department are hosting a Stormwater Conservation Workshop at Dottie Jordan Park. The workshop will offer strategies and guidelines for creating and implementing water conservation features, like terracing, berms, and swales, in parks. More info>>
[Rally] Saturday, May 2nd at 10:30am the Save Our Springs Alliance is holding a "Save It Don't Pave It" rally at the Roberta Crenshaw Pedestrian Walkway. The rally is being held to try and stop the toll road authority from building four toll lanes on MoPac from Caesar Chavez to Slaughter Lane, including a double-decker bridge over Lady Bird Lake and Zilker Park with a flyover next to Austin High School. [Happy Hour] Monday, May 4th at 6pm the Young Sierrans are hosting their monthly happy hour at Uncle Billy's Brew and Que. Young Sierrans is a Sierra Club group for people between the ages of 21 and 39. At the happy hour, they'll be discussing ideas about what the group should be doing next and planning for their future events. More info>>
[Lecture] Tuesday, May 5th from noon to 1pm the Center for Environmental Research is hosting a lunchtime lecture on the physical geography of rivers. This free lecture will cover fluvial systems and hydrology and will be held at the Waller Creek Center in Room 104. More info>>
[Design Talk] Wednesday, May 6th at 6:30pm internationally renowned architect, Alex Krieger, will be giving a presentation on the principles for creating vibrant, beautiful, and welcoming waterfronts. His talk is part of the Waterfront Talkabout speaker series, designed to help inform the planning process for the South Central Waterfront Initiative, which will create designs, policies, and recommendations to guide public and private investments near Lady Bird Lake's waterfront over the next 20 years. The talk is free and open to the public and will be held at the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center. More info>>
