[Earth Day] Saturday, April 25th from 9:30am to 12:30pm the National Wildlife Federation is celebrating Earth Day with a morning of family fun at the Discovery Hill Outdoor Learning Center. There will be live music, scavenger hunts, face painting, arts and crafts, and a special visit from Ranger Rick. More info>>
[Compost Class] Saturday, April 25th from 10am to12:30pm the Sustainable Food Center is hosting a composting class in their garden. Students will get their hands dirty learning the basics of compost – what it is, what it’s made of, how to make it, and how to use it. The class is$20 and registration is required. More info>>
[Earth Day] Saturday, April 25th from 11am to 3pm TreeHouse is throwing a huge family-friendly festival in honor of Earth Day. There will be food and drink from Chilantro, Texas Tea, and Hops and Grain, as well as raffle giveaways from Nest thermostats and Yeti coolers. There will also be free live screen-printed t-shirts and a seed-bomb making activity station. The event will be held at TreeHouse's South Lamar location. More info>>
[Film Screening] Saturday, April 25th from 2pm to 4pm the Austin Public Library is screening "The Unforeseen"at the Terrazas Branch. The documentary tells the story of the Barton Springs Aquifer and the growth of the environmental movement in Austin. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the director, Laura Dunn. The screening is part of the library's Talk Green to Me sustainable living series and is free to attend. More info>>

[Energy Talk] Sunday, April 26th from noon to 1pm Karen Hadden, of the Sustainable Energy & Economic Development Coalition (SEED), is giving a presentation on nuclear energy and natural gas at the First Unitarian Universalist Church. Hadden will talk about the potential risks of storing radioactive waste in Texas. She will also dive into the more local issue of whether Austin should build a new gas fired power plant, or pursue energy efficiency and renewable energy options instead. More info>>
[Garden Talk] Sunday, April 26th from 3pm to 4pm the Austin Public Library is hosting a presentation on community gardens at theManchaca Road Branch. Attendees will learn how to find land, apply for city endorsement, and partner with a nonprofit sponsor in order to start their own community garden. [Happy Hour] Tuesday, April 28th from 5pm to 7pmthe State of Texas Alliance for Recycling is having a happy hour at in.gredients. The event is a perfect networking opportunity forrecycling and zero-wasteprofessionals and enthusiasts alike. Plus, a portion of the evening's beer sales will be donated back to STAR and its programs, like Master Composter, which teaches community members throughout the state how to compost in their own backyards. [Energy Forum] Tuesday, April 28th from 6pm to 8pm CleanTX is hosting a forum on the Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) financing programin Texas. PACE is an innovative financing program that enables commercial, industrial, multi-family, and agricultural property owners to obtain low-cost, long-term loans for water conservation, energy- efficiency, and renewable energy projects. On March 24th, the Commissioners Court of Travis Counted voted to adopt Texas’ first PACE program, making energy efficiency and renewable energy projects in Travis County eligible to use PACE financing.
The forum, which will be held at the Texas State Capitol building, will serve as a kick-off for interested PACE users in Texas, as well as an opportunity to thank the community leaders who made this milestone possible. More info>>
