Earth Day Austin proudly announces a new partnership with Huston-Tillotson University as the hosts of Earth Day ATX 2017. After five great years at Mueller Lake Park, Earth Day at Huston-Tillotson creates opportunities to expand, diversify, and engage its regional audience on Saturday, April 22nd from noon to 7pm.
The Venue: Huston-Tillotson University is Austin’s oldest institution of higher education, founded in 1875. H-T is a historically black university located in East Austin. Striving to be the “greenest HBCU in the country” and recognized for their recent sustainability efforts and programs, including the Dumpster Project and “Green is the New Black”, H-T is a thematically appropriate spot for Earth Day 2017, which is also working to reach a broader audience.
“Our goal is to make this the most experiential, educational and engaging Earth Day event that Austin has ever seen,” says Reed Sternberg, Director at Earth Day Austin. “We are taking the best of past Earth Day events, and blending them with modern technology and interactive exhibits, then setting it all at the gorgeous campus of Huston-Tillotson.”
This year’s programming will feature indoor and outdoor spaces to create a wide variety of hands-on learning opportunities and experiences for people of all ages. New themed areas such as the “Renewables Marketplace”, “Transportation Hub”, “Video Showcase”, “Discovery Path” will feature virtual reality and opportunities for immersive and interactive engagement. Returning favorites will include the “Modern Vehicle Zone” and “Tiny House Exhibits”.

Earth Day Texas Austin is a nonprofit 501(c)3 that produces Earth Day ATX and other events including monthly events and the “Green Eggs & Ham” breakfast networking series. Their headquarters, “The Austin Green Room” is regularly offered as a community resource for the area environmental community.
