DEADLINE REMINDER:FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE::RESIDENT PERMACULTURE INTERNS
The Sunset Valley PermaCulture House (SVPH) is accepting applications
currently from interns seeking to reside in the City’s premier
sustainable-living environment. Interns may earn Certificates of
Achievement at 3-, 6- & 12-month stages for accomplishments in a variety of
green-living applications, e.g.: sustainable rainwater harvesting &
purification, urban utility usage conservation, greenhouse & straw-bale
building design, sustainable food preparation & cooking, urban agriculture &
in community education.
SVPH, Winner of the Mayor’s Award of Excellence in Permaculture, is the
Designated Lowest End-User Water Consumer in the City and Winner of the
Edwards Aquifer Conservation Award. The award-winning SVPH rain catchment
system has been producing potable rainwater for 3 years now. Recent
installations include an urban composting project. By July 2009 SVPH will be
home to a dozen chickens. In September, urban Mediterranean fruit orchards
will be installed in the front & back yards. Future considerations include
goat husbandry w/artisinal cheese-making via affiliation with the
international Slow Food Movement. Founder Doc JODY, MS, DC, is currently
setting up an Exchange Program w/Slow Food chefs in Italy.
SVPH, a Certified National Wildlife Habitat, includes a 2-story,
2,103-sq.ft house on restored 2/3 acres in the heart of South Austin,
walking distance to major bus lines & backs onto a permanent 200-acre
greenbelt with horse-walking-bicycle trails. Off-street parking. Tranquil
Sunset Valley has been named a National Tree City, USA, since 1997 & is a
National “Dark Sky” community.
Interns will have a choice of private living quarters.
