29 Jan City Council to Hear Options Regarding Fayette Coal Plant
The Council Committee on Austin Energy will be meeting on Tuesday, February 4th at 2:00 pm in City Council Chambers.
City staff have communicated this will be a public version of what was discussed behind closed doors in executive session on January 9th. Issues to be discussed will be the costs/legal hurdles for retiring Fayette, timelines and process for the update to our Resource, Generation, and Climate Protection, as well as questions from City Council about our issues.
The Austin Beyond Coal Campaign and other climate activists will be turning out folks to hold signs and listen to a public presentation by Austin Energy. We're asking folks to arrive at 1:45 pm to meet us in the chambers.
Please consider joining us for this public meeting. It took some work and pushing to get council to ask for a public session, so we want to make sure there's actually members of the public there and visible. This is your chance to get involved in these issues first hand – working to eliminate coal from Austin's fuel mix and working for renewable energy.
