Capital Metro is lowering its fares. Starting January 8th, the premium fare level (which was previously levied on MetroRapid and MetroFlyer riders) will be removed. That means from January on, Cap Metro will only have two fare levels – local and commuter.
The decision to make these changes comes out of Cap Metro’s Connections 2025 plan, which aims to make Austin’s bus system more reliable, frequent, and connected. By eliminating the premium fare level, Cap Metro is making it easier for riders to transfer from one type of bus to another, as well as making it easier to understand the transit system as a whole.
What does this mean for you?
If you are a MetroRapid or MetroFlyer rider, you’re about to save some money. The savings amounts to 50 cents on a single ride, $1 on a day pass, and $20.75 on a monthly pass. More info>>
