In case you haven't started looking through the jam-packed SXSW Eco schedule yet, we will warn you, this year's conference is filled with loads of amazing presentations with incredible speakers, including:
- "Peak Travel:" Envisioning the Post-Air Travel Age
- Recycling More Vs. Recycling Right in America
- Building Bipartisan Consensus in the Green War
- City Transit 411: Urban Myths and Urban Mobility
- Tackling the Renewable Energy-Water Nexus
- And Austin's own bug connoisseur and founder of Little Herds, Robert Nathan Allen will be leading a session called Entomophagy 101: Why We Want You to Eat Bugs.
Looking to get more involved? You can help SXSW Eco in its waste diversion efforts by volunteering with SpinFish Event Solutions on Tuesday, October 7th and Wednesday, October 8th. SpinFish will be collecting lots of items from the conference, including banners, pallets, and paper, and will be giving them away for reuse so that they do not end up in the landfill. If you want to help hand things out or are interested in picking some things up to reuse yourself, send an email to renee@spinfishinc.com.
[Forum] Sunday, October 5th from noon to 1pm, theFirst Unitarian Universalist Church Green Sanctuary Committee is hosting a public forum entitled, "How Academic Performance Can be Improved by Connecting Kids to Nature."National Wildlife Federation's Marya Fowler will explain how and why schoolyard habitats and outdoor classrooms help students learn. [Youth Education]Tuesday, October 7th at10am Earth Native Wilderness School is hosting,"Picnic in the Park: A Day in Nature for Preschoolers," at theBarton Creek Habitat Preserve. The class runs for seven weeks and includes nature-inspired crafts and outdoor exploring. More info>>
[Cooking Class] Tuesday, October 7th from 6:30 to 8:30pm the Sustainable Food Center will be hosting aKitchen Fundamentals class all about vegetables. In this class you will learn to unlock the flavors and nutrients of roots, shoots, tubers and flowers using seasonal andlocally grown producefrom the SFC Farmers’ Market and some tried and true cooking techniques that will make your veggies the stars of your plate.
