Austin’s Coal Future?
Austin Energy’s Advisory Meeting, THIS Monday is open to the public, raise your voice.
Monday will be one of the last chances for citizens to state their views on our City’s electric generation plan. Austin Energy plans on finalizing recommendations in August, regarding the “mix” of fuel sources we rely on for electricity.
The current plan keeps our city dependent on Coal through at least 2020 — and most likely far beyond.
This is a potent opportunity to make a difference. Let the good people in charge of planning know how you feel about staying “addicted” to Coal vs. aiming for a more proactive inclusion of Clean Fuels…
You might be surprised: Of the 11 planning options under consideration Monday night, only 1 even contemplates moving to more clean energy rapidly, the other 10 options keep us connected to coal indefinitely.
Furthermore,
The CURRENT DRAFT PLAN keeps ALL existing fossil fuel plants (including the Fayette coal plant) running indefinitely — and it seeks to install ADDITIONAL fossil fuel burning power plants over the next several years.
Is this the future you want?
