Austinites Preach!

Water Droplet

What's Inside...

A group of Austinites from the Christian, Jewish, and Muslim faiths came together on Sunday for the Third Annual Interfaith Preach-Off. The event invited a wide array of religious leaders to deliver short sermons on environmental topics. This year the theme was “Water is Life.”

At the Preach-Off, many of the religious leaders shared stories of the importance of water in all faith traditions and encouraged attendees to preserve and care for water as a precious resource.

Imam Asim Shareef especially stressed this point, saying, “… So God is trying to tell us something profound. That this water is not only a resource for our life, it is also an avenue and a way that we are connected, in a way that makes us human beings and makes us stewards of the creation. So the least we can do is replenish, and protect, and save this very, very valuable resource called water.”

Missed out on this healthy dose of inspiration? Don’t worry. We recorded a few of the sermons below, so you can give ’em a listen!

This event was hosted by several local interfaith organizations that spend some of their focus on environmental protection, including Interfaith Action of Central Texas, the Faith and Energy Action Team, Interfaith Environmental Network of Austin, Texas Impact, and the Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary.
