19 Apr Austin Water Receives Statewide Environmental Awards

Austin Water staff, the Hornsby Bend Biosolids Management plant and the Albert R. Davis Water Treatment Plant received awards at the Water Environment Association of Texas (WEAT) annual conference today, April 15, in Corpus Christi , Texas .

Charlie Maddox won the George Warren Fuller Award for distinguished service to the water supply field. Maddox is an engineer in the Environmental and Regulatory Services Division.

Dana L. White won the Laboratory Analyst Excellence Award for outstanding performance, professionalism, and contributions to the water quality analysis profession. White is currently the senior chemist at the Hornsby Bend facility.

Raj Bhattarai received the Winfield S. MahiIe Award, recognizing a member of WEAT who has made significant contributions to the art and science of wastewater treatment and water pollution control. Bhattarai is the manager of the Environmental and Regulatory Services Division.

The Hornsby Bend Biosolids Management plant was awarded the Ronald B. Sieger Biosolids Management Award for “significant accomplishments in the field of biosolids technology and management practices in the State of Texas .”

Hornsby Bend Biosolids Management Plant treats all biosolids produced by Austin Water’s wastewater treatment plants.  “Dillo Dirt”, which is produced at the facility, is an award-winning product created from curbside yard trimming collections and digested biosolids then composted to produce a commercially-available, soil conditioner.

The Davis Water Treatment Plant received the Partnership for Safe Water 10-Year Director’s Award for exceptional systems operations.
