August 14th is not the End of Summer, ….but it is the Start of Fall [Garden Planting] –

Hello Austin & C-TX,

It’s hot and it’s humid now – probably the last thing you want to think about right now is being out in the garden – but how about in Sept., Oct, Nov. and even early Dec??? Cooler, nicer, fewer bugs, some rain maybe, some exercise…..You can grow some of your own food, contribute to reducing CO2 emissions and Peak Oil, get some exercise, and grow some of your own nutrition….

You don’t have to start until mid-August or September – when it’s all those nice things above – but you do have to do one thing now from the comfort of your armchair and AC or from the wireless connection at your vacation resort (I’m actually at Chattaqua Lake in W-NY) – so please do it now. Simply click on thios link: http://cg15.eventbrite.com/?ref=ebtn and you can enroll in the 1st Citizen Gardener Course for Falll 2010.

It will be on Sat AM August 14 and 21 – 4 hours of hands-on learning each – plus a review session on Tues., Aug 17. Classes are at Festival Beach Community Gardens and the review is at the Terrazzass Library. Sign up now as these classes fill quickly and this one will allow you to take full advantage of Austin’s unique and fun Fall Gardening season from Sept 1 – early Dec. Now, now, now, please – thanks for signing up.

You’ll like the easy style, the hands-on approach, be able to head home to do it yourself to the admiration of family, friends, neighbors – and you’ll get exercise, nutrition, and just plain fun. OK, if you can’t make the August class, check out www.citizengardener.ning.com to enroll in one of the other 3 fall courses. Join over 200 graduates in doing your part to help Austin "Go Local"  – grow more of our own food locally.

Thanks and best,

Dick Pierce
