Looking for a way to give back to your local environmental community? Now’s your chance. Amplify Austin begins on Tuesday, March 8th. Amplify Austin is the city’s annual community-wide day of online giving. Over the past three years, Amplify Austin has raised over $16.2 million for hundreds of local organizations.
Here’s what a few local environmental nonprofits are raising money for during Amplify Austin:
The Sierra Club is the oldest grassroots environmental organization in the country and we have been in Texas for 51 years. This year, our Amplify Austin Day goal is to raise $7,000 to support community-building efforts such as ensuring access to affordable solar power for low and moderate income Austinites, and promoting water conservation to preserve the Highland Lakes and Colorado River flows so that drinking water and habitats downriver are there for future generations. We are honored to be represented alongside so many great environmental nonprofits in Central Texas on this day of online giving.
TreeFolks has set a $5,000 goal to raise funds for trees to replant the banks of the Blanco River after the devastating Memorial Day flood of 2015. Hundreds of historic bald cypress trees, massive in girth and centuries old, were swept away along with the rest of the riverside forest. TreeFolks offers free trees, planting, and consultations to the people whose lives and homes were forever changed by the flood. $1 purchases one sapling; $1000 will replant 2 acres of riverbank. Help us restore a true piece of our Texas environmental heritage.

Texas Humane Heroes
Texas Humane Heroes is a nonprofit animal welfare organization headquartered in Leander. We serve the greater Austin area as well as hold a branch in the Killeen/Ft. Hood area. Our mission is to eliminate pet homelessness. We are very unique from other organizations in the area because we travel across the state of Texas to rescue animals from municipal shelters that kill for space. This is where 95 percent of our animals come from. We currently serve over 35 counties in Texas and, with the support of the community, our goal is to continue to grow that number.
And so many more!
Other local environmental organizations that are participating in Amplify Austin include Ecology Action, Austin Creative Reuse, Keep Austin Beautiful, National Wildlife Federation, Sustainable Food Center, Westcave Outdoor Discovery Center, Texas Campaign for the Environment, and so much more!
