MLK Day Cleanup at Colorado River Wildlife Sanctuary/Montopolis Bridge

Each year Americans across the country come together on MLK Day to serve their neighbors and communities. Celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by joining us to “Learn through Serving” at the Colorado River Wildlife Sanctuary/Montopolis Bridge.

This is an integral and vital meeting place for the community, where the Colorado River serves as a natural and recreational jewel -providing a haven for swimmers, family gatherings, wildlife enthusiasts, and boaters. The Colorado River Wildlife Sanctuary hosts a variety of ecologically important bird and animal species and provides an important riparian buffer that is crucial to water quality.

On MLK Day you are invited to join Austin Youth River Watch, Keep Austin Beautiful and the City of Austin Watershed Protection Department to clean up the area! You may also opt to learn how to test water quality and learn about the ecological importance of Benthic Macroinvertebrates how they are used as water quality indicators. Tools, gloves and guidance will be provided.
