Help HCC Saturday, September 19th begin restoration work on a wetland at the Nalle Bunny Run Preserve. This is a family friendly volunteer opportunity! Volunteers will be removing non-native St. Augustine grass from the wetland area to prepare site for native replanting and future restoration workdays. The open boggy area is a convergence of two drainage systems. Water below the surface provides excellent conditions for insects, butterflies and migrating birds. Due to the intense drought, the area is currently dry and volunteers will have an easy opportunity to help restore this vital Nalle Bunny Run feature.
Location
The Nalle Bunny Run Wildlife Preserve is located on the shores of Lake Austin, near the Pennybacker 360 Bridge. Directions will be emailed to volunteers who RSVP by Thursday, September 17th at 5PM.
What to Wear
Tennis shoes, shorts, t-shirt, sunscreen, and a hat. Bring your bathing suite to stay and swim in Lake Austin afterwards from 12-1!!
What to Bring
Towel, water bottle, and sunglasses. Gloves and shovels are optional. HCC will provide a light breakfast/ snack.
Safety Considerations
Volunteers will be shoveling in somewhat dry dirt and grass, so be aware that some leaning and bending over will be required. The terrain will be somewhat rocky and uneven. There is a possibility that volunteers will encounter wildlife and other animals associated with wooded areas.
