Austin Zero Waste Alliance (AZWA) Monthly Meeting (Balcones Recycling Facility Tour & AZWA Regular Meeting)

Hello Zero Wasters!

October’s is extraordinary, and we are excited about turning out supporters old and new! To begin, we are scheduling the meeting a day early: the first Wednesday of the month—October 3—is the date of the first presidential debate. So that no one will miss the debate, the AZWA meeting will be tomorrow, October 2. In addition, the meeting will at the new Balcones Resources Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) in Northeast Austin. This will give us all a chance to tour this state of the art facility before we address our regular business, and see what happens to our resources when they get recycled. Finally, in addition to our normal meeting activities, there will be the opportunity to enjoy some live bluegrass music before the meeting from the Sieker Band!

WHEN: Tuesday, October 2. tour at 7 with a meeting on-site afterwards; Live Music begins at 5:30.

WHY: See Austin’s newest Materials Recovery Facility, a 100,000 square foot, state-of-the-art single-stream recycling center. Hear live bluegrass and plan to protect Austin’s Zero Waste future!

This is an exceptional meeting and an awesome opportunity to see first-hand what the work of citizen advocates can accomplish. If you’ve never toured a single-stream MRF, the experience is fascinating and seeing these machines in action will help you understand the unique needs and challenges of recycling here in Austin.

After the tour we will use the facility’s on-site meeting space to hold our regular discussions and plan for action on the various issues confronting Austin’s Zero Waste goals today.
