21 Jul City Kicks off Integrated Solid Waste Management Master Planning
(Austin, TX) – The City will host a meeting July 22 at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall Council Chambers to kick off the public input process for the Integrated Solid Waste Management Master Plan (ISWMMP) Scope of Services. Co-hosted by the Solid Waste Services and Public Works Departments, the meeting will provide an overview of the City’s Zero Waste Strategic Plan, the Climate Protection Plan, and how they relate to the ISWMMP. The Master Plan will identify ways to implement the Zero Waste Strategic Plan while minimizing the SWS Department’s carbon footprint.
In January, Austin City Council approved the Zero Waste Strategic Plan, which is Austin’s call to action to drastically reduce 90 percent of the waste going to landfills by 2040. Recently, City Council authorized staff to begin negotiations with the selected consulting firm and seek public input regarding the scope of services. Staff will provide additional opportunities for public input at a follow up public meeting on July 30 and at four different boards and commissions meetings in August.
If unable to attend the kickoff meeting, participants can join the meeting and interactively participate online by clicking on a link posted at www.cityofaustin.org. Participants can instant message their questions to the moderator at the meeting for discussion. Citizens can also watch the meeting on Channel 6.
