"Raasta", meaning "the way" in Hindi is an ethical, boho-chic fashion label, which works in partnership with artisans in rural India to make clothing and accessories from the finest of hand woven fabrics, hand block print and embroidery techniques and natural dyes. Techniques used at Raasta such as hand weaving in some of the collection is more environmentally friendly than conventional methods and Raasta also ensures fair wages and capacity building to these marginalized artisan communities.
Raasta will have a trunk show previewing its Spring/Summer 2012 collection at Austin Creative Alliance where people can peruse the collection and pre-order at a discount. A portion of sales will benefit two local non-profits Dress for Success Austin (provides support services to disadvantaged women) and Ten Thousand Villages Austin (a fair trade retailer).
