Bastrop Benefit: Sneak Peak at BERNIE

When the devastating wildfires hit the Bastrop area last week, we were all in touch with each other about how to help out the community that had been so generous and accommodating to us last fall when we were there filming our movie BERNIE. As it happened, we had a cast and crew screening scheduled for September 18th because, even though the film has been finished for a few months, it isn't scheduled to come out until early next year and it seemed a long time to make all the folks that worked on it wait to see it. Anyway, we hit on the idea of opening up our screening to the public as a way for people in the Austin area and members of our artistic community to help our neighbors in Bastrop.
We're excited to offer this early sneak of BERNIE because not only was it largely filmed in the Bastrop community, but it's a PG-13 comedy about life in a small Texas town. And, thanks to the generosity of The Paramount Theatre and other early sponsors, 100% of all ticket sales and donations will pass through to important local non-profits that are doing so much to restore and maintain their community. We hope you can join us for this special event, but even if you can't, there's still a way to give to the Bastrop fire relief effort and allow a Bastrop community member that's been affected by the fire to see the movie – simply purchase tickets for direct donation to Bastrop area residents. We'll close in saying that any generosity toward the Bastrop community at this time is so greatly appreciated. Over 1,500 homes suddenly gone in a small community creates a truly heartbreaking percentage of homelessness, and even though the outpouring of concern, help and support has been inspiring, in a situation like this there is never enough. Sunday, September 18 at 4 PM | The Paramount Theatre (713 Congress Ave) Filmed primarily in Bastrop, BERNIE is the true story of a beloved funeral home director in the small town of Carthage, Texas who strikes up an unlikely relationship with the town’s richest widow. The film stars Jack Black with Shirley MacLaine and Matthew McConaughey. $100 general seating and $250 for special reserved seating. For those unable to attend but still wanting to contribute, tickets can be donated so affected residents from the Bastrop area can attend. |

100% of proceeds from this screening will benefit the following organizations (to date): Bastrop Emergency Food Pantry, Heart of the Pines Volunteer Fire Department and Friends of the Lost Pines State Parks.
