Please join us on September 23 for the 2nd Annual University of Texas Campus Sustainability Symposium, which will showcase many of the most promising sustainability-related research projects and operations initiatives on campus led by faculty, staff, and students. (See attached flyer, and feel free to distribute!)
The 2011 Symposium will be held at UT’s new Student Activity Center, which opened in June and strives to earn UT’s first LEED gold rating on campus. President William Powers will introduce this year’s symposium, and the President's Sustainability Steering Committee will present its State of Sustainability Report. Much like last year’s event, the Sustainability Symposium will feature over 20 quick presentations in Pecha Kucha-style 7 minute blocks. Following each grouping of presentations, audience members will have the opportunity to interact and ask questions.
In conjunction with the Symposium, the Campus Environmental Center will host the Amazing Sustainability Race on Wednesday, September 21st from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. Student teams will compete to identify important sustainability landmarks on campus, such as the new solar panel installation on Manor Garage. The race will be followed by an ice cream social where the winning team will receive a prize and students will have the opportunity to learn more about student-run sustainability activities on campus. For more information and to express interest in participation, please email info@utenvironment.org.
The Sustainability Symposium is open to the public and sponsored by the President’s Sustainability Steering Committee with support from UT’s Office of Sustainability, the Center for Sustainable Development, the Campus Environmental Center, the Environmental Science Institute, and the UT Energy Institute. For questions about the event, please contact Elizabeth Walsh at elizabeth.walsh@gmail.com.
