Make Your Own Recycled Art

While driving to West Texas we passed through Llano where there’s an eye catching house where Kathleen Smith displays her bottle trees and mosaic creations in her front yard. Her business is called Texas Tin Lizard Bottle Trees www.texastinlizard.com  You can purchase and adorn one or more of their original bottle trees, place it in or outdoors.  Then decorate them with bottles, colored glass objects, or other items you choose and create your very own amazing art sculpture!  My personal favorite was the Gloriously Happy Peacock which will be a future project for me!  Looking forward to making my own art creation!

We should try to remember that there are many ways to recycle glass bottles and jars without sending them to the recycling center. In most cases, glass containers can be washed and reused for other purposes. When you're shopping try to purchase products that are in attractive and decorative glass containers. If you plan ahead to wash and reuse a glass container, you're not just recycling; you're precycling, too. Recycling a single glass bottle or jar can save enough energy to light a 100 watt light bulb for as much as 4 hours. So recycling bottles and jars are definitely worth the effort!

Many people have collected cool vintage bottles over the years but unfortunately are just gathering dust in boxes or on the windowsills. Are you ready to go green and make your own work of art?  Modern versions of the bottle trees are increasingly being seen in urban areas. So give it a try if possible (if not restricted by HOA rules).

Not interested in bottle trees?  That’s ok.  There are other ways to recycle bottles and jars at home. Creating crafts is a great way to recycle glass at home. Not only are you able to repurpose the glass, you are also able to create something beautiful.

By recycling glass bottles and jars will make your home a greener and more beautiful place to live in. It will also save money and give you a creative outlet for expressing your unique personality.  Consider some of these ideas:

Wine bottles for your lawn? Yes! Many wine bottles come in lovely colors. These can be put upside down in your flowerbed to create a lovely border for your flower bed or side walk.

Another use for wine bottles would be tocreate a unique centerpiece or you can focus on your favorite brands or colors.

Glass Mosaic. If you have lots of colorful glass bottles and jars and are artistically inclined, this is a great way to recycle glass. Create a mosaic on a table or trivet.

These are just a few of the ways you can recycle glass at home. Once you start crafting with recycled glass you will likely find even more ways to use glass and jars and give them a second life!
