Shades of Green Energy Radio Kicks off the summer by celebrating World Ocean’s Day with interviews on sustainable seafood

Memorial Day is the unofficial start of summer when many folks think about vacations and trips to the beach. To kick off our summer season and our 1st June 2011 program we’ll celebrate World Ocean’s Day.  Thursday, June 2nd at 1 p.m. on Shades of Green Energy Radio 91.7 FM in recognition of World Ocean’s Day we interview Kerry Coughlin, Regional Director of the Marine Stewardship Council a worldwide organization based in Seattle, Washington and Carrie Brownstein, national seafood quality standards coordinator at Whole Foods Market.

I recently read an article about Whole Foods Market partnering with the Marine Stewardship Council to help shoppers know about the quality of the seafood they purchase and that it’s sustainably raised or caught.  I was immediately interested in finding out how they could assure sustainability of a fish that might have been caught in an ocean anywhere in the world … how was that particular fish traceable?  We reached out to the Marine Stewardship Council and to the Whole Foods Seafood Department to find out about this complex issue.  Tune in to hear about how Whole Foods is working with the Marine Stewardship Council to bring high quality seafood to the market and still preserve the world’s fish population.

We chose these interviews to highlight the importance of valuing the body of water that unites us worldwide … the world’s oceans. Let's keep them safe, clean, beautiful and full of healthy fish.  Let's preserve and value world oceans in all their magnificence so we can enjoy them for all the summer vacations to come … and all year round!!!!
