Presently, with 7.8 billion people on the planet, we are using 1.6x more resources than the Earth can sustain. With our population expected to peak around 10 billion in this century, we must turn to the concept of a circular economy, where planetary and human well-being are no longer at odds. This talk will help attendees redefine wealth, reconsider how our consumption impacts human rights both at home and around the globe, and rethink what it means to build a sustainable future.
Speaker Sage Lenier is a 22-year-old educator who has been teaching and organizing in the environmental sphere, and her course, Solutions for a Sustainable & Just Future. She is currently teaching with Zero Waste USA and working on turning her curriculum into a book.
The City of Austin Imagine Austin Speaker Series (which is always free) brings in thought leaders and national experts from around the country to speak about issues pertaining to land use, transportation, development, the economy, education, workforce development, the built and natural environment, green infrastructure, social equity and sustainability to promote and implement Austin’s vision for the future, the Imagine Austin Comprehensive Plan.
