UpLift Austin Design Innovation Showcase and Competition

KIPP Austin Collegiate students will present their "green innovation" designs, including a bicycle powered generator, a temporary pop-up shelter, and a solar panel cooling system, in the UpLift Austin Design Innovations Showcase and Competition.  Students will display research boards, sketch-up renderings and 3-D models and defend their designs to competition judges, including representatives of UT Department of Art – Design Division, Sunflower Design, Austin Permaculture Guild, and Hewlett-Packard.

In addition to the competition, the event offers the Austin community an opportunity to view two campus improvement projects slated for completion later this month, including a hallway mural and an outdoor classroom.  Both projects were designed and implemented by the students with volunteer assistance from community members and design professionals.

UpLift Austin board member, Erin Moore of EdisonLearning, notes that this curriculum is one of the most innovative educational models in the country, fostering student leadership and critical thinking skills, while exposing students to higher education and careers through hands-on learning opportunities.
