United We Move: CCL’s Plan For Climate Action In 2021

The 2020 elections will shape our political strategy

The will to solve climate change is growing. 2021 could present historic opportunities for climate solutions, and CCL is preparing to move forward. At this conference, we’ll take a look at the road ahead. John Wood and Hahrie Han will discuss what the 2020 Presidential and Congressional election results mean for climate policy in 2021. And CCL’s Dr. Danny Richter will share key elements of CCL’s 2021 strategy based on the election.

We’ll stay true to our roots

Some things will remain the same no matter what the election outcomes are. We’ll continue our nonpartisan, grassroots approach. We’ll still build the relationships that turn enemies into allies, and allies into activists. At the conference, you’ll have an opportunity to hear about the work we do to reach out to, include and support all different types of people to reach their potential as climate advocates.

And build on our past successes  

As we discuss the road ahead,  it’s important for us to review what’s worked so far, and to build on those successes. 2020 has been a difficult year, but there have been bright spots as we transformed our advocacy from in-person to digital. CCLers will share highlights and best practices from their work this year.

Add a Sunday Seminar

Each of these virtual seminars lasts two to three hours (starting at 1pm ET on Dec. 6), taking our attendees deeper into the material than a standard conference breakout. When you register for the Dec. 5th conference, you can choose to RSVP for a Sunday Seminar as well, please select the “RSVP Sunday December 6th” ticket in addition to your Dec. 5th ticket. You can choose from one of four seminar topics:

• Bridging the Divide on Climate Solutions presented by Braver Angels (2 hours) While most Americans understand climate change is real, they disagree on solutions. Some seek solutions that maintain the status quo, while others believe that the problem requires major systemic changes. This session teaches communication skills to allow people to talk more constructively with each other about solutions to climate change.
• New Research on Carbon Pricing Benefits and CCL’s June Analysis (3 hours) Broken into 3 sections (45 mins each, 15 min break in between), we’ll first cover the updated Household Impact Study; second we’ll review two papers, one by Noah Kaufman which discusses the necessary carbon price rates to reach net-zero emissions by 2050 and another paper by Dr. Drew Shindell which speaks to the health benefits of a climate policy like H.R. 763; and finally we’ll go over the June 2020 Lobby Day notes analysis.
• A lens into race and climate (2 hours) [limited capacity] How do White and BIPOC individuals move beyond diversity to talk about race issues at a climate organization? Gain tools and practices for counteracting racial bias and microaggressions to help create a more compassionate and inclusive organization. This session will be led by Natalie Orozco, CCL Board Member & Strategic Consultant, and Karina Ramirez, CCL Diversity and Inclusion Director.
• (This session is full) Envisioning Climate Success and Your Next Steps (2 hours) Peterson Toscano, host of Citizens’ Climate Radio, will help you appreciate your unique life experiences and connect them to your next steps into the future. Through a mind-expanding time-travel exercise, you will free up your imagination and consider new solutions.
