Violet Crown Spring Festival – Benefiting Urban Patchwork

November 15 @ 6:42 pm

The Violet Crown Countdown is On!

The Violet Crown Festival is less than a week away and there's plenty to be excited about, with more than 50 artisans, a full slate of activities and entertainment, refreshments, and more – all of which make the festival a favorite local event for residents of Brentwood, Crestview, and surrounding neighborhoods.

The festival will be held on May 7 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at a brand-new location – the new 6701 Burnet Rd. Market (formerly known as the Travis County Farmers' Market). Admission is free to the festival, which is staged by Violet Crown Community Works (VCCW) and sponsored by Amy's Ice Creams, Burnet Road Self-Storage, Grande Communications, H-E-B, The Pilates Center of Austin, and the 6701 Burnet Rd. Market. (Hint: Find Violet Crown Spring Festival on Facebook and invite your friends!)

The schedule of entertainment and special events includes:

11:30 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. – The Violet Crown Community Theatre's production of "Thumbelina" (fun for the whole family)

12:15 – 1 p.m. – Jill and the Jaybirds (kid-centric entertainment, including bilingual music, puppetry and stories)

1 – 1:30 p.m. – ribbon-cutting ceremony for the 6701 Burnet Rd. Market

1:30 – 2:30 p.m. – Susquehanna Hat Company (upbeat and eclectic, with interesting instrumentation)

2:30 – 3:30 p.m. – Roger Beck and Company (vintage country, swing and pop sounds)

3:30 – 4:30 p.m. – The Happy Campers (original Americana, plus some primo cover songs)

4:30 – 5:30 p.m. – Patrice Pike (singer, songwriter, rocker and Austin/Texas Music Hall of Fame inductee)

5:30 – 6:00 p.m. – Festival wrap-up and raffle winner announcements

Activities and features include the G FORCE RV with Guitar Hero (courtesy of Grande Communications), a raffle, bead art, solar oven, face painting, gardening demonstrations/information from Urban Patchwork, art-car building, animal magnets, dunking booth, bowling, fingerprint card-making, blood pressure checks, pedestrian/bicycling safety information, hula hoops, and chalk art.

A range of tasty treats will be on sale, include offerings from Amy's Ice Creams, Elsi's Restaurant, and Hat Creek Burger Co.

This spring's festival is the 11th neighborhood event VCCW has coordinated since 2003. The event will again showcase the best of local music, food and arts; neighborhood history; community resources; and family activities. Proceeds from the festival will benefit Urban Patchwork, a Violet Crown-based non-profit CSA (community-support agriculture) dedicated to making local, natural food affordable and accessible for all of Austin.

In addition to the festival's major sponsors, other sponsors include Barnstormers Studio, Crestview Minimax IGA, Furnish 123, John Dunham/Juice Homes, The Pour House, and Richard Schley Realty.

Violet Crown Community Works is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization based in Austin, Texas, helping build and sustain community in Brentwood and Crestview by supporting neighborhood enhancement projects and events.
