This summer, Solar Austin and Huston-Tillotson University (HT) are partnering to launch an innovative internship matching program. At its core, the Equitable Clean Energy Jobs Program focuses on improving diversity and cultural inclusivity in Austin’s growing clean energy sector and providing students with a high-quality professional advancement opportunity in a rapidly expanding green jobs market.
On April 9, it’s time to connect with the internship employers and clean energy industry professionals, hear about the companies and positions being offered, and get matched with a paid summer internship.
RSVP is required to be matched with employers for interviews and is appreciated for all other attendees as well. We also request that interested students fill out a program application before attending.
Greater diversity, equity, and inclusivity in the workforce are proven to create stronger, more resilient, and profitable organizations. Over the last decade, Austin has grown a thriving local clean energy industry; however, more could be done to improve diversity in the workforce. That’s why Solar Austin and HT have joined forces, and thanks to a grant from the City of Austin, have spearheaded the Equitable Clean Energy Jobs Program! While many clean energy companies name diversity and equity as top business priorities, the industry’s reliance on word-of-mouth recruitment techniques and general unfamiliarity about the industry’s viable career pathways within educational and training programs has resulted in a workforce that does not accurately represent the people of Austin. This program seeks to bridge that gap and be that foot-in-the-door for students. Our goal is to help facilitate pathways for underrepresented students into green jobs and to develop a set of best practices for clean energy companies that want to improve diversity and inclusivity in their recruitment, hiring, and retention of staff.
