Earth Day Workday at Barton Creek Greenbelt (Spyglass Access Trail)

Join the Austin Parks Foundation and CA Technologies Employees on EarthDay for our Barton Creek Greenbelt project from 9 am to 11:30 am. On behalf of the City of Austin Parks Department, the Austin Parks Foundation, we welcome your help. Here’s a few things to know.

1) Where to Meet: We’ll meet at the trailhead at the intersection of Barton Skyway and Spyglass Drive. The official address is 1601 Spyglass Drive. From Mopac, head east (if coming from the North, left turn across the bridge over Mopac, if coming from the south, right turn at the traffic signal) down the hill to the intersection of Spyglass. Park along the street, watching for the no-parking signs. There’s a Taco Deli and Quick Mart store across the street if you missed breakfast or need a little something more.

2) What to Bring: We’ll be working in the trail and in the creek bed so we’ll be largely out in the open and away from poison ivy, but we still recommend long pants, a hat, your favorite work gloves (we’ll have plenty if you don’t have them), eye protection (sunglasses are good) and a big refillable water bottle.

3) What we’ll bring. We’ll have t jugs of water, gloves if you need them, hand tools and wheelbarrows. The work site is about 10-15 minute walk from the trailhead and we’ll ask everyone to help us carry the gear down and back.

4. What we’ll be doing. Our goal is to continue work begun on rebuilding a section of the trail that has been damaged by flooding. We’ll be gathering rocks (large and small) as well as gravel and building up big piles alongside the trail, then working with the Barton Creek Trail Corps crew to place the rock. All materials are in the creek bed about 25 feet away.
