31 Mar Parks at risk, unless action is taken.
Thursday 3.31.2011, there is a rally scheduled at the Texas Capitol that will try to get one message across, don’t cut funding to our parks. While the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is not the only department facing potential budget cuts, this is also not the only budget rally that has taken place. It is however, a rally that you should get involved in if you want to see a brighter future for our Parks and Open Spaces.
“A coalition including parks advocates, tourism officials and others will speak out against proposed budget cuts to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. HB 1, which is expected to be considered by the Texas House of Representatives as early as Friday, cuts funding for the agency by approximately 25% for the 2012-2013 biennium. The cuts could force the closure of at least seven state parks, eliminate funding for local parks and playgrounds, and end leases for almost one million acres of public hunting land.”

WHEN: Thursday, March 31, 2:30 PM
