The Austin Regional Group of the Sierra Club is a volunteer organization of over 5000 members. We’ve been an integral part of the Austin scene since 1968.

Our goal is to ensure that the Austin area remains a healthy, vibrant, place to live. We believe that the health of the human world is inextricably linked to the health of the natural world, and we offer a wide variety of activities and volunteer opportunities to support our goal.

PROGRAM: Energy in Mexico, with Philip Russell

Philip Russell will discuss hydrocarbons, renewables, electricity, clean energy goals, the energy reform, and President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

Philip Russell is editor of Mexico Energy News and a contributor for the Paris-based Renewable Energy Network. He has accepted multiple speaking invitations from Ivy League universities, and he has been certified as an expert witness in federal court. He has written seven books on Latin America, the last one being The Essential History of Mexico (Routledge), used as a college text. His writings on Mexico have appeared in publications ranging from Mexico City’s La Jornada to The New York Times. Philip is a long time Austin Sierra Club Outings leader, and has received the Virginia Murray Brewer Award as the outstanding Sierra Club leader in Texas. He is well known for his hikes to Bright Leaf Nature Preserve, Shield Ranch, and Big Bend.

Consider biking, carpooling, or taking Cap Metro (http://www.capmetro.org/planner) to the meeting. Free parking is available after 6pm on San Jacinto and nearby streets.
