Imagine Austin Speaker Series: Housing Affordability, Displacement and Gentrification

With housing prices continuing to rise and rental costs far outpacing wages, affordability and displacement are of great concern to many in Austin. Predicted continued population growth and limited affordable housing will make it even more difficult for low income households to afford to live in the city. Please join us, where Karen Chapple, the nationally-recognized founder of the Urban Displacement Project and professor at the University of California, Berkeley, will discuss approaches and solutions to tackling the issues of affordability and gentrification in the face of stagnant wages and increasing housing prices.

The City of Austin Imagine Austin Speaker Series brings in thought leaders and national experts from around the country to speak about issues pertaining to land use, transportation, development, the economy, education, workforce development, the built and natural environment, green infrastructure, social equity, community leadership, and sustainability to promote and implement Austin’s vision for the future, the Imagine Austin Comprehensive Plan.
