From the Save Barton Creek Association –
September’s Creek Crew Happy Hour features a research group from St. Edward’s University composed of Kristen Meisner, Chris Enders, and Winfred Mudong.
“We are a group from St. Edward’s University completing our Professional Science Master’s degrees in Environmental Management and Sustainability. Our research will be a continuation of studies conducted by Nico Hauwert and the City of Austin to predict the flow path and pattern of the Barton Springs Segment of the Edward’s Aquifer. The goal is to determine the effects of recent excavation work on modulating the flow of groundwater towards Barton Springs and determining how potentially harmful sources of water entering Onion Creek could impact the quality of drinking water provided by the aquifer resource. Beginning in September we are injecting dye into 4 swollets and cave entries that will travel through the aquifer and exit at Barton Springs. We will have charcoal receptors in Barton Springs Pool and will be observing monitoring wells on properties along the trajectory. We will be presenting our final findings in mid-December at St. Edward’s University and publishing our results.”
College students – this is your chance to get an inside look at how hydrology studies can be conducted!
