Join us for Rainforest Partnership’s 8th Annual Films for the Forest, hosted by SXSW Community Screenings. Judged by a distinguished panel, including Oscar-nominated Richard Linklater, our international short film challenge showcases the importance of forests and their communities through the lens of filmmakers. The screening will take place from 4:30pm – 6pm, and a reception will follow in the lobby from 6pm – 7pm.
Films for the Forest was launched in 2010 with the goal to bring together children and adult filmmakers alike to contribute to rainforest conservation through the arts and foster broader civic engagement. In 2016, Films for the Forest received a record 122 films from 34 countries and 5 continents.
In the face of unprecedented ecological crisis we must find new ways to encourage environmental awareness, engagement and stewardship globally. Films for the Forest has the power to inspire change through the medium of film with empathy, creativity and community engagement. Film is another creative medium we have to elicit an emotional response, stimulate a shift in consciousness, and create global change.
Rainforest Partnership is a non-profit organization that partners with forest communities to help them make an income that allows them to protect their forests. We do this by working with communities to develop and market products made out of raw materials found only in the rainforest or by providing services that are unique to rainforests.
