Some of the reasons for Austin’s success include:

  • Samsung’s largest, single purchase of renewable energy ever by a business in Austin through the city’s GreenChoice program in 2015
  • The Austin Independent School District’s dedication to renewable energy. AISD is also a GreenChoice customer and ranks first amongst all K-12 grade schools in the nation for purchases of renewable energy
  • Austin City Council’s goal of sourcing 55 percent of Austin Energy’s electricity from renewables by 2025
  • Austin’s longstanding dedication to renewable energy. In 1995, Austin Energy, the City of Austin, and the Lower Colorado River Authority started the first commercial wind farm in Texas
