South Waterfront Open House

The Open House will take place at the Statesman Bat Park on Saturday, April 30^th between 10am and 4pm. All are welcome to come see the results of a three-year collaboration between city staff, residents, local business owners, property owners, and other stakeholders. This June, the City Council will consider adopting the South Central Waterfront Plan to ensure that great park spaces and public gathering places, green streets, and affordable housing are central to the future redevelopment of the area.

This is a family-friendly event with ice cream and refreshments, a petting zoo, face painting, and live music to accompany visitors as they explore the latest information on what’s happening (and what’s to come) along Austin’s South Waterfront.

What is the South Central Waterfront Initiative?

The South Central Waterfront Initiative is a vision and cohesive set of recommendations to guide public and private development along the south side of Lady Bird Lake over the next 20-plus years. The goal is to ensure that, as this area inevitably changes, every increment of change will contribute to making a great new district that:

• Establish a lively, attractive pedestrian environment.
• Expand open space and create great public spaces.
• Enhance connections to and along the waterfront.
• Include 10-20 percent new housing units as affordable.
