Austin City Council continued to propose more regulations on ride-hailing companies like Uber and Lyft at a Mobility Committee meeting on Monday. Already, City Council is considering requiring all Uber and Lyft drivers to receive fingerprint-based background checks (as opposed to the name-based background checks that the companies already conduct on their drivers).

At the Mobility Committee meeting on Monday, committee members also proposed the following regulations:

• Ride-hailing cars should have to display a sign saying which company they work for
• Drivers should be prohibited from dropping off or picking up passengers in active traffic lanes
• In addition to the state inspection that is already required of Uber/Lyft drivers’ vehicles, they should have to pass a 20-point inspection that the city now requires of taxis and limousines
• Uber and Lyft should have to submit a plan to the city that will ensure access to their services for people with disabilities
• Ride-hailing companies should have to report trip information monthly
