Rooting Our Fight in Justice: Potluck & Presentation on Poverty, Pollution, and Gentrification

November 22 @ 9:24 am

Basic Info

Date:
November 22, 2024
Time:
9:24 am

Open the paper. Watch the news. Look around town. Austin is changing. Her people are changing. And our climate is changing right along with it. Come learn more about Austin's history and how we can organize alongside impacted communities; alongside the folks most impacted by air pollution, poverty, and displacement.

We hear about "affordability", about gentrification. We see family homes & businesses being torn down and high priced condos & offices taking their place. But what's often overlooked is that the people most impacted by "affordability" are also the people most impacted by air pollution, high utility bills, food deserts, illegal dumping, and the lack of access to quality healthcare, good schools, and safe neighborhoods.

As a community of neighbors, students, parents, organizers, and environmentalists, we are calling on you to come learn more about the intersections of these fights, to learn about the history of environmental justice in Austin, and how you can play a vital role in making sure Austin doesn't become the greenest, least affordable city in the US.

Have some drinks! Eat some food! Have some fun! And meet other folks interested in collaborating to fight for climate justice in Austin.

Program starts at 7!
