[Garden Talk] Saturday, April 11th from noon to 1pm the Sustainable Food Center is giving a talk about local food. They will be teaching attendees how to grow food locally with minimal resources, benefiting the environment and their health. The talk is free and will be held at the Windsor Park Branch Library as part of the Austin Public Library's Talk Green to Me sustainable living series. More info>>
[Festival] Saturday, April 11th from noon to 11pm is the Second Annual Texas Wild Rice Festival at Sewell Park in San Marcos. This environmental festival is designed to educate people about the importance of protecting local drinking water and the unique ecosystem that is the San Marcos River. The festival is named after Texas Wild Rice, an endangered aquatic grass that is found only in San Marcos and can only survive if the water flowing from the San Marcos River is kept clear and clean. To teach attendees more about the importance of protecting threatened habitats like this one, there will also be free hands-on workshops, interactive science displays, food and fun. More info>>
[Sustainability Talk] Saturday, April 11th from 1pm to 2pm UT PhD student Thomas Hilde is speaking about how technology can help plan sustainable cities and regions for the future. This includes things like estimating the economic dollar value of street trees. The talk is free and will be held at Windsor Park Branch Library as part of the Austin Public Library's Talk Green to Me sustainable living series. More info>>

Sunday, April 12th from 11am to 4pm the Colorado River Alliance is hosting the Family Water Festival at Fiesta Gardens. This free event is a celebration of the Colorado River and will be jam-packed with environmental education booths, live music, puppet shows, canoe and kayak lessons, and food trailers. More info>>
[Alternative Vehicles Fair] Sunday, April 12th from noon to 2pm the First Unitarian Universalist Church is hosting an alternative vehicle fair called,"April Fuels Day." There will be lots of electric vehicles on display, including the Toyota Prius, Nissan Leaf, and the Tesla Model S. The fair will be held across the street from the church, in the parking lot of the Texas Health Credit Union. More info>>
[Transportation Talk] Sunday, April 12th from noon to 1pm the First Unitarian Universalist Church is hosting another edition of its public affairs forum. This week, Zach Baumer with the City of Austin's Office of Sustainability, will be speaking about green vehicles. He will give an overview of Austin's new Community Climate Plan, as well as provide details about the city's plug-in partners program and efforts to green the city's vehicle fleet. More info>>

[Design Talk] Sunday, April 12th from 3pm to 4pm author Sam Martin is giving a talk about his book, "Pliny Fisk III: Creating a Maximum Potential Future."The book is a biography of Pliny Fisk III, co-director of the Center for Maximum Potential Building Systems, and an innovator in the world of sustainability. Fisk will also be on hand to discuss his pioneering ideas about sustainable design and plans for the future. [Film Screening] Thursday, April 16th from 6pm to 8pm the documentary, "The Unforeseen" is being screened at the Recycled Reads Bookstore on Burnet Road. The documentary tells the story of the Barton Springs Aquifer and the growth of the environmental movement in Austin.
